Looking for a good introduction to traditional Swiss recipes, the dishes you grew up with in Switzerland? If so, Andie Pilot’s Helvetic Kitchen is a must. She features “Swiss classics” and inserts anecdotes explaining some of our customs such as “Znüni” & “Zvieri”. There are two versions of the book. One is a more traditional cookbook with photographs; the other which is shown, is a slim 10” x 6” making it an ideal coffee table book and a perfect gift. I do want to warn you that once you open it, you won’t be able to put it down.
Bed and Breakfasts. One of the joys of travel is to experience & see new things and to meet new people. One of the best ways to accomplish this is to overnight in Bed and Breakfasts in lieu of hotels. They are great for overnight stays, and even better if you want to use them as your home base for several days for exploring a region. They fit all budgets and many enable you to use kitchen facilities to do some home cooking. Most are easily accessible via public transportation and offer convenient parking facilities if you opt to drive a car. Swiss BnBs are a wonderful way to get to know Switzerland. Please share your Bed and Breakfast experiences with us.
The Organisation of the Swiss Abroad (OSA) is a private foundation established in 1916, which represents the interests of the 751,800 Swiss Abroad. It is launching a petition calling for the introduction of electronic voting for all Swiss Abroad by 2021. Often, because the voting documentation arrives too late, the Swiss Abroad cannot participate in voting and elections.
This petition aims to enable the 172,100 Swiss people around the world registered on an electoral register to exercise their political rights. The OSA hopes that at least 10,000 signatories will support the petition. The petition can be signed until 28 November 2018 and will be submitted to the Federal Chancellery on 30 November 2018. Visit www.evoting2021.ch for details and/or to sign the petition A very fine and gentle soul passed on October 31st after over 88 years of a wonderful life. Just a note to let you know that Robbie Schneider's fight with his heart is over. He died on May 21st when he failed to get his breath. His heart stopped trying to get the oxygen to his body and at 6:43 and he died with me sitting close to him. There is a nice obituary at Adamson Funeral Home here in Greeley, CO. There is room for comments if you are interested in making any. We didn't know too many of you but enjoyed our time with you. I will miss our get-togethers for picnics and Christmas parties that you invited us to. Thank you for keeping the Swiss together. You do a great job! Annette Schneider |
